What is your success rate and typical response time?

Since we launched our reference service in 2012 we have successfully obtained 90% plus of all references we have requested each year. Response times vary from employer to employer and can range between 1 to 10 working days, the average response time is 4 working days.

What is your process to obtain references?

We maintain a database of contact details for organisations where we have previously submitted reference requests – typically large corporates. If an organisation is new to us we make contact by telephone to establish the correct department and method to submit each reference request. After the initial contact we chase up a further 4 times over the next 10 working days using the most suitable combination of phone calls and emails as each scenarios dictates.

Are employment references still worthwhile given that some contain little information?

Yes. Even ‘barebones’ references which contain employment dates and job title are vital to verify a candidate has not falsified their employment history. In addition, a significant percentage of references will provide further information such as salary, absence, the reason for leaving and a description of job duties and performance helping to build a picture of the candidate you’re hiring.
