    Job description:

    Our client, a successful international manufacturing organisation, is seeking a Buyer to join their small but friendly team. The successful candidate will have experience of working in a buying role in an Engineering Fabrication environment and working towards their CIPS qualification.

     

    Salary and benefits:

    • £34,000 (will increase to £36k after successful completion of probationary period – 3 months)
    • 20 days annual leave + 8 bank holidays (pro-rata)
    • Pension

    • Full-time: Monday to Thursday 8.00 am – 5.00 pm (30 mins lunch) / Fri 9.00am – 4.30pm (30 mins lunch) – 42 hour working week

     

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Develop strong supplier relationships and agreements
    • Review and manage supplier performance
    • React to demand signals to ensure sufficient materials are available
    • Be a key member of the stock control team, working with the Inventory Manager to establish Min /Max levels and lead times for Production items
    • Ensure Purchase Orders are placed in a timely manner
    • Manage supplier return processes to ensure non-conforming products are returned to suppliers and Credit Notes issued.
    • Maintain and update supplier pricing data
    • Support to Production Management by working with existing supply base across the UK & Europe to ensure the best possible component supply
    • Review of suppliers and look at new suppliers to increase cost or technical advantage over competitors
    • Review of commercial terms

     

    Skills and experience required:

    • Previous experience working in a Buyers role in an engineering fabrication environment.
    • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (or working towards Graduate Diploma Level)
    • An awareness of technical terms and have purchased a range of metals, materials, tools and engineering components.
    • Previous experience as a buyer within an Engineering manufacturing business.
    • Experience of purchasing non-production & MRO items
    • Experience of New Product Introduction.
    • Proven negotiation skills and to have an in-depth understanding of commercial terms.
    • An Understanding of Lean Manufacturing.
    • Worked with a range of MRP systems.
    • Good working knowledge of Microsoft packages (Word, Excel and Outlook)
    • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (or working towards Graduate Diploma Level)
