We’re delighted to be recruiting a full-time or part-time Bookkeeper / Accounts Assistant on behalf of a well-established, family-owned accountancy practice based in Market Harborough. This exciting Bookkeeper / Accounts Assistant vacancy offers the opportunity to join a friendly and supportive team, working with a diverse portfolio of clients across a range of sectors. The successful candidate will become part of a respected practice that values long-term client relationships, professional development and the delivery of an excellent service.

  • £28,000 – £32,000 dependent upon experience (pro-rata for part-time)
  • Monday to Thursday 9:00am to 4:45pm, Friday 9:00am to 4:00pm
  • 33-hour working week with a 30-minute lunch break
  • Part-time applications considered with a minimum of 25 hours per week

Duties and responsibilities

  • Managing bookkeeping and VAT work for a varied client portfolio
  • Assisting with the preparation of accounts
  • Supporting the preparation of self-assessment and corporation tax returns
  • Carrying out general compliance and administrative accounting duties
  • Acting as a key point of contact for clients and responding to queries in a professional manner
  • Liaising with HM Revenue & Customs on behalf of clients
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring work is completed to a high standard

Required skills and experience

  • Previous experience in an accounting, bookkeeping role preferably within practice
  • AAT qualified or currently studying towards an AAT qualification
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage workload effectively and work independently when required
  • Strong organisational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and build positive client relationships
