    An exciting vacancy has arisen for Finance Assistant to join an SME organisation that works nationally providing hospitality support to charities, businesses, and educational establishments

    The successful candidate will report directly to the Finance Director and will take a pivotal role within the finance function assisting in the day-to-day operations for this busy organisation. Initially the role will be transactional accounting and payroll, but the role will develop and will take on the responsibility for VAT returns, assisting in the preparation of the monthly management accounts, financial analysis and project work and ultimately you can make it your own role.

    Please note that this role is office based. Candidates will also be considered who do not have prior payroll experience but are interested in adding to their current accounting skill set.

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Raising of sales invoices and processing onto the Sage system
    • Assigning costs to the relevant cost centre and dealing with any associated queries and issues along with providing support to Operational Heads
    • Management of the payroll function (monthly – 250 heads), including pension contributions and expenses, ensuring monthly PAYE/NIC liabilities are settled
    • Completion of journals and payroll related balance sheet reconciliations
    • Assisting the Finance Director with the production of monthly management accounts
    • Processing of financial data including purchase ledger processing, debtors and creditors
    • Completion of credit control
    • VAT returns

    Skills and experience required:

    • Working towards AAT qualification is desirable but not essential
    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working within a finance environment
    • A high level of IT user competence, particularly in Microsoft Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUP’s & Formulas) with practical experience of using accountancy software systems (Sage 50 and Sage Payroll desirable)
    • Strong organisational skills and ability to work in a process driven environment
    • A strong self-starter who is motivated and can work independently
    • Excellent communication and relationship building skills
    • Helpful team member, happy to provide support to colleagues in other areas where required

    Hours:

    • Monday to Thursday 8am – 4.30pm, Friday 8am – 2pm with ½ hour lunch

    Salary and benefits:

    • £26,000 – £29,000 dependent upon experience
    • 20 days annual leave rising to 25 days after 2 years’ service
