We are always looking to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, (CIPD) for updates on issues affecting workplaces.
A big global topic, and something they are supporting is improving mental health in the workplace.
In May 2018, the CIPD conducted a large survey to be able to compare workplace wellness figures with that of 2010. The results were alarming and further confirmed that as businesses, we need to take the health of our employees very seriously.
They have produced a short video, infographic and full report about their findings.
It is worth having a look and thinking about what your business is doing to support your people.
The charity Mind has also published some alarming research:
- More than one in five (21%) employees agreed that they had called in sick to avoid work when asked how workplace stress had affected them
- 14% agreed that they had resigned and 42% had considered resigning when asked how workplace stress had affected them
- 30% of employees disagreed with the statement ‘I would feel able to talk openly with my line manager if I was feeling stressed’
- 56% of employers said they would like to do more to improve staff wellbeing but don't feel they have the right training or guidance
